On my Liteon CD burner Nero has a tickable box for "Smartburn". With my NEC 2500 DVD burner the same box indicates that "Justlink" is enabled. AFAIK Windows XP has no influence over the recognition and use of buffer underrun protection but it can influence a successful disc burn or not if things like DMA isn't

No one sells a CD or DVD burner for the Mac and doesn't ship software with it if Apple won't support it. Apple isn't competing with anyone when it comes to CD/DVD-RW, they ship with their own burners and support them fully. ...with basic support. Which is better than Windows XP's support.

We wish but I seriously doubt it, still waiting for decent supplies of x8 DVD-R, Dual Layer media is a long way of at this stage, late this year maybe.
